I'm always on a lookout for weird and unusual stamps issued by postal authorities.  But there are so many of them that I can't keep track what's out there.  Luckily, Michel Briefmarken, the famous German stamp catalogue company, introduced a new worldwide catalogue in 2020 that collates unusual stamps with 2,000 photos and approximately 16,000 price ratings.  The catalogue lists stamps that are made of unusual materials or have some other technological innovation used in the production of the stamp.

This new specialist collecting area is bound to grow in the future and it's a great way for new philatelists get interested in the hobby.

Some of the most innovative countries listed by Michel include Austria, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Great Britain, and Tonga.

I have a webpage dedicated for unusual stamps that are listed in the Michel Catalogue and will be adding to it as I acquire more stock.  Take a look and get started with a new collection, or introduce someone new to the world's greatest hobby.

Happy collecting!
